The Journalism textbook for Class XI covers the well-structured syllabus developed on the basis of the revised curriculum introduced in the state of Kerala. Journalism is a relatively new discipline at the higher secondary level in Kerala and also an emerging field that gives a lot of opportunities to excel one’s talents in communicating with people. The exponential rate of technological change throws up new challenges before the centers of communication and journalism teaching to constantly update their knowledge.
In the era of media convergence, a journalist must be aware of the fundamentals of communication and technology. When all media of information and communication converge through its many forms (text, image, data, and sound) into a single medium such as a disc or a smartphone and reproduced through a common digital language, a journalist must have multi-tasking skills to gather information from various sources and present them in a coherent way to make sense.
This new textbook on Journalism gives due importance to the changes in the media landscape and tries to re-assess the way of content creation for the media.

The SCERT textbooks are developed in a series of workshops organized by the SCERT in which a team of teachers from various Higher Secondary Schools, Colleges, and Universities was involved.
